What I do: I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in Anthropology at the University of Miami. Anthropology is the scientific study of the origin, the behavior, and the cultural development of people. One of the ways anthropologists study cultures is through archaeology. Archaeology is the study of past human life and culture through recovery and examination of things like graves, buildings, tools, and pottery. My job involves teaching, researching, and writing. My research is the coolest part of my job. I get to travel around the world to places like Belize, Honduras, and Peru to conduct archaeological digs.
My "career path": I wanted to become an archaeologist since I was in grade school and visited the University of Pennsylvania's Archaeology and Anthropology Museum with my father: "I was hooked the first time I saw an Egyptian mummy." Getting to where I am now involved a lot of school: college (majored in anthropology), graduate school (both Master's degree and a PhD in anthropology), and archaeological field work.
My favorite things outside of work: Spending time with my family and friends, yoga, reading, photography, snuggling with my cats, watching my husband cook, traveling, and going to the beach
