I am: determined, energetic, and visionary
What I do: Currently I am a Senior Advisor at the Rock Creek Hedge Fund, where I conduct legal due diligence, speak with clients (some of the largest pension funds in the world), and educate Congress about how the financial crisis should be avoided in the future. I am also Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Institute of Human Virology, where I work with the lawyers and doctors to actively pursue a vaccine for AIDS and to insure that we treat the largest number of AIDS patients possible. Formerly I was the first woman Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.
I like to solve problems, so my jobs revolve around major world problems to see what I can do to help solve them.
My “career path”: I have had multiple careers -- Deputy Assistant Attorney General, where I helped plan the placement of 100,000 police officers; the first Woman Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, where I had responsibility for billion dollar agencies including the Department of Corrections, State Police, Department of Juvenile Justice, the Office of Children, Youth and Families, the Office of Volunteerism and Service and the Office of Crime Control and Prevention, as well as the Department of Business and Economic Development and the Department of Transportation. I am proud of making Maryland the first (and still only) state in the country to require community service as a condition of graduation!
My favorite things outside of work: I love to hike in the woods or walk by the ocean ... also sail, canoe, and ski.
Tips for a successful girlfuture:
• Find your passion and work very, very hard especially when you are young and before you start your family.
• Be kind to those that you meet for you will run across them all throughout your life and they can help you.
