Welcome to the Doing It Yourself Blog!

1/12/2010 By: Victoria Garcia image for blog: Welcome to the Doing It Yourself Blog!

My name is Victoria, and I'm going to be writing this blog!

Did you know that there are many, many ways to make your own type of media? "Media" is anything that says something to readers. It can be a newspaper, a magazine, a collage, or even a t-shirt! This blog is a type of media, and so are the books you read for school and the notes you pass to your friends in class!

I think that it's really important for girls to learn different ways to say what they want to say. I have a daughter (she's nine), and lots of times she thinks that people won't listen to her because she's just a kid. But when she makes her own type of media and shares it with friends and adults, she often finds that people want to read her work so they can find out how she made it!

So this blog is going to be all about how girls can make their own media. We'll look at how to make zines, collages, and even videos! We'll also look at other ways to make really cool media, like how to turn your hair, t-shirts and clothes into different ways of saying things you want to say. There will be lots of experts that can answer questions you have (like: How can you make a zine look really professional?). I'll also occasionally post your work so that others can see it!

So stay tuned, it's going to be a lot of fun!
